In 2011, WV native Jon Magee established Smoke on the Water. Jon is an avid trout fisherman who has a fun loving laid back style. His passion for fishing, river life, beautiful WV scenery, and mouth watering cuisine were inspirations he wanted to share so Smoke on the Water was born. Jon and wife Denise have a unique style and have created a dining experience unsurpassed, and is something that should be experienced by all. They created an area and atmosphere for dining that makes you appreciate the relaxing river style of life. The views are spectacular and the BBQ is amazing. You can actually see and feel the great outdoors while enjoying food that you never thought could taste so good.
Our menu is designed to offer choices for the entire family. About the Chef – Jason Fleck
I was born and raised in San Diego, California, where I started working in restaurants at the age of 15. I began cooking at a winery and country club in Temecula California at age 17, where I moved through the ranks to Sous Chef. The next 17 years I worked as Executive Chef on the ship “Excel” out of San Diego Bay where fresh seafood quickly became my specialty. I then moved to Elkins, West Virginia in 2014 to enjoy life with my two beautiful daughters, Sage and Fynn. Since moving to West Virginia I traveled to Missouri to complete a BBQ course through Mike Mills where I earned my “Pit Master” certificate. Last year I competed in the Cast Iron Cook-off in Charleston, WV, where I was awarded Grand Champion. I also took home the awards for “Best use of Local Protein”, “Best use of Cast Iron”, and “Best Overall Dish”. As Executive Chef at Smoke on the Water, I am looking forward to continue feeding the good people of West Virginia.
About the Chef – Bill Wehr
Smoke on the Water is proud to introduce our executive Chef Bill Wehr. Bill is a native of Elkins, WV and graduated from Elkins High School in 1988. Wehr attended West Virginia University and began cooking at the age of 20. Bill worked through the ranks holding many cooking and managerial positions in West Virginia and North Carolina. He decided to follow his passion of cooking and graduated with high honors from the Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Arts in Pittsburgh, PA in 1995. Bill’s incredible talent and skill allowed him to complete an externship in New Orleans at Emeril Lagasse’s famous NOLA restaurant. Under the tutelage of Master Chef Emeril Lagasse our friend Bill Wehr was able to hone his cooking skills and perfect techniques which enabled him to use his talents to achieve executive and most requested private chef status. Smoke on the Water is honored to have Bill Wehr as our executive chef and we welcome you to come enjoy the delicious meals he creates specifically for your pleasure.
